The materials will be used during sensory and when students become agitated. Fidget toys, choice of seating, or the creation of a calming center will help students be able to relax and come back to the lesson when they are ready. Students with autism benefit from sensory immensely. My students are in the process of learning to read so audiobooks and sing-alongs will help them achieve their reading goals over time. The art supplies will be incorporated into the lessons and everyday activities to help reward the students. Providing incentives for the students helps give them a clear picture of what they are going to be rewarded with when they get all their stars. Rewards can be music, sensory time, playtime, or art. We use lamination paper for almost all of our work so that students can reuse worksheets, practice writing their ABCs multiple times, and engage in that repetitive learning. Similar to lamination paper, if you don鈥檛 have enough time, you can place the paper in a wipe pocket and then erase the writing afterward to be used again.
