When we open a book, a child immediately tries to identify with the story's characters.
By building a library of classroom books with characters from a variety of cultural backgrounds, I hope my students "see" themselves within the characters and feel a deeper connection to the story and messages within the stories. It is essential to create a classroom environment that is welcoming, so celebrating and representing the varying cultures of my students is of utmost importance.
