The materials in this project will be used to support increased engagement during distance learning. While students have been provided with workbooks and writing utensils, as well as devices and apps for online learning, I know that much of what supports their learning in reading and math are the interactive learning games they play during work time at school. My school does not have a color printer, and the school copier is frequently out of ink. I will use the color printer and laminating materials to create phonics and math materials that will be distributed to students. These games, cards, and activities will be used during online whole-group and small-group instruction. Whiteboards will allow students to share answers during live instruction, and to get immediate feedback on learning.
First graders are hands-on learners who need a tactile experience, even when learning online. Providing students with materials to use at home will ensure that they get practice that meets their unique developmental needs. Even better, these materials will work just as well in the classroom when we all resume in person instruction.
