I teach 1st grade special education at Kamaile Academy Public Charter School on the West coast of Oahu. Our school is the largest conversion charter school in the state of Hawaii. We are a title one school where all of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. In 2007, the school community came together to commit to positive change for our children. By converting to a charter school the parents, teachers and school leaders now have the flexibility and autonomy to make educational decisions that will maximize student learning and wellness. Our students are energetic, compassionate, free-spirited, and eager to learn. They love being active and outdoors soaking in the beautiful scenery they call home. As the special education inclusion teacher, it is my mission to give our students appropriate ways to get their wiggles out and explore their emotions to allow optimum learning experiences.
