Hi everyone! Thank you for taking the time to read about my project. My name is Mrs. G and I am ecstatic to be teaching 1st grade this year in Baltimore. Due to COVID-19, this past school year took a toll on students all over the country, especially on students in low-income communities. For Pre-K through 2nd grade students in these communities, early reading instruction was interrupted as educators, students, and families navigated online learning. Many students in this population were already experiencing reading deficits without the effects of COVID-19. As a educator in City Schools, it is clear to me and many others that, since March, the reading deficits in early childhood students has increased. Because of this, I need your help to increase my 鈥淟earning to Read鈥 library in order to help close the reading gap for my students and help them succeed this year. I am collecting grade 1 level books, as well as fundraising to buy guided reading books for my students. We will use these books both online and in class this school year.
