The use of a document camera will allow students to follow along with me as I model a lesson. Oftentimes, we will read from a passage to practice fluency. With a document camera, students will be able to track the words as we read them together! As I project a book or worksheet, I can point out specific text features to boost my students' decoding and fluency skills. Additionally, guided lessons would be much more clear when students are able to follow along with the teacher. Most of my students are visual learners and seeing work projected in full color and completed in real-time will help them gain a deeper understanding of concepts covered in class.
With these new academic tools and books, my students will be able to become more confident readers and writers.
My students also need a variety of resources to help keep them engaged and on track towards their IEP goals. They need books that cater to their specific reading levels and address their needs. I would use the various reading intervention books to provide extra opportunities for practice in order to build fluency, decoding skills, and vocabulary skills that can help them get closer to working at grade level in the general education classroom. I will work in a small group and one on one to assess my students and track progress through the use of reading assessments and fry word lists. Students can also work independently by using sound phones while they read. This is perfect for oral reading, phoneme blending, and phonics practice. Your generous donation to this project will improve my special education resource program by helping my students become more confident readers and writers which, in turn, will help them keep up with their peers in the general education classroom.
