With distance learning in place, there is great uncertainty in whether or not students will even be provided with books to take home. As a Title I school, many students come from low-income families who may not be able to provide books for their children. This project will ensure that more students are provided with culturally diverse books and can access these resources at home.
These culturally diverse books will help create a positive classroom culture that builds students' character and teaches important values such as spreading kindness and being open to different life experiences, both inside and outside of the classroom!
By providing culturally relevant books for students, they will be able to see themselves as characters in books or begin to understand the life experiences of others, broadening their perspective.
These books will not only strengthen students' reading comprehension skills, but encourage the love of reading through personal connection!
