I am working on helping my students to build social and emotional relationships within the online learning environment. I will not be able to see my students in class every day, but still need to build the rapport with my students that helps them to feel secure enough to continue to learn within the classroom. In this project, I would like to mail them post cards on their birthdays (or here at the beginning of the year, if they were summer babies) in order to help me to build that connection with them.
Finding a way to build connections with my students is even more important now than it has ever been, as I do not have the ability to see them every day. I am hoping that by building a relationship in which they feel comfortable, they will be more willing to reach out when they need my help in learning. Many students get uncomfortable asking for help in mathematics, and I am hoping that by fostering a positive connection, it will help them to be successful in my class.
