Having a music class without instruments is possible but students miss out on a major part of their musical experience. Playing instruments in an ensemble at an elementary school level is important. It helps students get ready for secondary school band and orchestra. Even if students do not pursue music in middle or high school, playing instruments together helps build teamwork and cooperation. While we are distance learning, students will not have access to our school's collection of instruments that reinforce teamwork and their musical skills.
Giving each student a recorder is the most efficient way to ensure that they get a meaningful, engaging, and challenging musical experience while we are distance learning. Playing a recorder not only makes students learn how to read music, but also makes them work on their fine motor skills. Also, having a recorder ensemble is the easiest way to get a large group of students to play together. Your donation will help every student get a recorder that they can use at home. When we are back to in-person education, they will already have had valuable instruction on recorder that brings us one step closer to a recorder ensemble!
