My students, particularly my student who is deaf, are learning how to use a communication device to communicate their needs and wants as well as connect with their peers. I will use this device to teach my student how to operate a communication device once a particular communication app is installed.
My deaf student has not received support in learning how to use her device, and this has become even more impossible at home. With a new device, I will be able to teach my student how to use her own talkie, and this will normalize this new form of communication with my other students. This will also support my students with autism who are nonverbal. When we go back to school, I plan on making the device available to my other nonverbal students.
