My students are all at various learning levels and need many materials to help them master the Nevada Academic Content Standards and learning loss that occurred during the COVID 19 shutdown.
The items I selected will benefit my students through providing an effective communication tool between students, teachers and peers within the school setting and support sensory input needs for students on the Autism Spectrum. The Kids Plastic Magnetic Visual Schedule Calendar Chart to support their transition throughout the school day. The visual schedule is designed to support students in understand the school day, activities and expectations. These visual schedules allow for predictability of the students day, which can ease anxiety and manage undesired behaviors. The additional benefits of the visual schedule is that it provides for a display of real-life photos so that students can connect to everyday images while following their individualized daily schedule. The visual schedule provides for a clear beginning, transition and end of the school day daily routine.
The benefits of the Communication Photo system book is that the system provides an active way for students with limited communication skills to communicate their wants and needs in a fast and effective way utilizing visual supports. The system promotes two-way communication by the exchange of a sentence strip beginning with (I want) among the major communication signifiers. This tool has multiple purposes, identifying items, labeling, but most importantly it allows for two-way communication between students and teachers, peers and other individuals that the child may interact with throughout the day. The Kinetic Sand will be used for a choice reward for free-time and engagement between multiple students to increase imagination and hand-eye coordination. The Link-N-Learn Links are a hands on academic learning tool that supports counting and fine motor skills.
