Many of my students are struggling readers, they want so badly to learn and grow and I have chosen to incorporate independent reading into my classroom. At this time I have 194 students, many of who struggle with learning disabilities and many who test at a 3rd grade-5th grade reading level. They are some of my most dedicated and vivacious students. As my students are searching for texts to read, we are finding that my book selection is extremely limited. This is now my 7th year in education, and I have unfortunately never been given a budget for new novels.
The limited book supply I do have has been inherited and leans toward older novels. My students have expressed interest in manga, graphic novels, poetry, and the newly released young adult novels that connect to their own culture and experiences. I know that engaged student reading will dramatically help their reading comprehension and fuel their joy of reading. It breaks my heart to see such intelligent, respectful kids getting discouraged in their education because I do not have the proper resources to provide them the same opportunities as other classrooms that have funds for new reading materials. With this gift, my students would be given the opportunity to fall in love with reading and find literature that relates to social topics they are facing now and situations that are unique to this current time in history. Please consider honoring both me and my students by partnering with my 第一吃瓜网 Project. This commitment will help them both in their education now and their futures to come.
