My first-grade co-teacher and I understand the importance of giving kids experience with high-quality literature regardless of their educational setting. Using these books, that reach across various genres and cultures, we will be able to give students an opportunity to hear us model high-level thinking and a variety of reading strategies. In addition to this, students are able to foster a love of reading, which is often developed in the classroom setting. Our students do not have a lot of access to quality books due to their economic circumstances. We are committed to providing this experience multiple times per day during the upcoming school year. It is going to be difficult to teach with the restrictions in place this year, but this familiar and important aspect of primary teaching will remain intact and hopefully a favorite daily moment for our students. With a good book and reader, children can escape to anywhere in the world.
