I am a Speech Therapist for two schools in Danbury Connecticut, a low SES (socio-economic status) district. That being said, many of my students are unable to afford the basic resources needed for their general classrooms. The CDC is recommending each student have their own school supplies. As it is, most of them won't be able to provide their own personal school supplies thus are dependent on what the school can provide.
As an underfunded district, it is difficult to provide materials for every student, therefore, this Donors Choose would allow all my students to have the basic materials needed for a successful year in Speech Therapy.
I want to be able to provide my students with everything they need to be successful in their speech sessions so that they can engage in learning without constantly needing to bring items from their classroom or needing to sanitize items, which takes away from their learning. By having their own supplies, each student can fully participate and work on their speech goals.
I start each year with the saying "Oh the places you'll go" on my bulletin board. This year more than ever, I want my students to feel confident in that statement without worry.
