These books will be placed in my classroom library as well as be used for read alouds. Students will be able to see themselves and their classmates represented in the books! By seeing themselves reflected in the books they will be able to make even greater connections than they already do! Having books about characters that they do not see represented in their classroom allows them to look beyond their classroom, and introduces them to the beauty of others.
Not only will they have the option to read books where they see themselves and classmates represented but they can also have the option of reading that book in their Native language! Being a Dual Language classroom we aim for the students to not only obtain that second language (English) but to preserve and take pride in their native language (Spanish). Having the opportunity to read books in their native language allows them to keep practicing it and realize the importance of preserving it!
These little bilingual minds will understand how important and valuable knowing two languages is and also, how important and valuable they are as a person.
