Because reading and writing skills are lifelong, I want to engage instruction that inspires my students to see the benefits of using such in a variety of settings. Through taking part in reader's theater projects, writing newspaper articles, screenplays for short stories, reports for a newscast, and questions for author interviews, my students will be able to expand their writing and reading experiences. These lessons are an opportunity to hone academic skills, and also to help students see themselves as readers and writers--that their voices and perspectives matter. I can use the Mevo Start system in my classroom to encourage flourishing literacy skills while incorporating a unique learning tool into our routine. The benefits of using a Mevo Start in my instruction would be numerous. Students can use the Mevo Start for reader's theater projects, thereby building critical thinking and teamwork skills, practicing effective written communication, and enacting reading fluency and comprehension. Exercising these proficiencies is essential in preparing students for life beyond school. Additionally, the Mevo Start can be used to facilitate remote learning. As educators everywhere consider new best practices in building relationships with students, and engaging academics and safety, I am seizing the opportunity to innovate during this unprecedented time in education.
