My students are getting ready to move to high school. Learning remotely involves challenges that I never imagined as an educator. They are most engaged when they are doing something exciting and with visual aids, since many of them are English language learners. This iPad and Apple Pencil will help make it easier for my students to learn online as I will be able to share my screen on it and open different apps that we use daily. I want to provide more opportunities for them to be fully engaged due to the help of visuals and step by step scaffolds that I try to provide every opportunity I have. We use several apps and extensions that aid in this such as Pear Deck, EdPuzzle, Khan Academy, IXL, Jamboard and others which I am still working on learning. However with remote, learning to see our Google meetings and sharing my screen while monitoring progress on these apps makes teaching the focus of any lesson.
The iPad and Apple Pencil will allow me to show them on the iPad how to solve equations step by step using the Jamboard app before sending them off to IXL to do their work time. Solving multi-step equations using inverse operations is not easy to teach online and these tools will allow me to have the necessary tools to do just that.
Having an iPad as a second screen during our online google meets will help me to be able to monitor the chat and their progress in apps like IXL. When we go into IXL and learn how to solve equations, I can see the progress they are making and use the iPad to monitor their progress while helping them in the chat room with any questions.
