I teach kindergarten in a suburban school. The students range in age from 5-6. My classroom consists of several students that are struggling to meet grade level expectations and also students that have learning disabilities in reading. My students are very enthusiastic learners. They are both very visual and kinesthetic learners. They love to interact with books, sing along and listen to someone read aloud. We have been working so hard on building the phonics and phonemic awareness that is necessary to build fluency. They have even created their own letter sound manipulatives to practice blending. My school lacks the resources to provide hands-on activities and extended classroom libraries to meet the needs of these children. We have already seen great strides in reading abilities and I want to keep the momentum of continuing life long readers.
