The implementation of a family literacy coaching project with a focus on read aloud experiences will improve the literacy skills of our youngest learners. The children鈥檚 books have been intentionally selected to include diverse and empowering characters with universal themes. Requirements of the project include: weekly literacy coaching sessions; free material and resources distributed to participating families in the community; and oral language and vocabulary opportunities. Additionally, early basic literacy skills such as alphabetic knowledge, phonemic awareness, and phonics skills will be embedded in the program through games, songs, and direct instruction. Fulfilling these requirements should lead to establishing home literacy routines for our families and strengthening relationships.
