I would love to have a STEM Library with an emphasis on careers for women. This is essential to helping my students understand the developing world before them and that STEM careers are achievable for women and other minorities. Help me show my class these great examples of women in STEM careers. I was recently introduced to the If/Then Collection, which is a digital library that showcases diverse women in the STEM field. I want my students to know, "You can be anything you want to be when you grow up".
It is important for the students to understand that anyone, including women and minorities, can work in the science, technology, engineering, and math fields. I plan to use the IF/Then Collection, a variety of children's books that promote diverse women in the STEM field, and hands on STEM activities to help students see a future for themselves in this field. Students will explore what inspired these women and learn about obstacles they had to overcome. After reading books, and researching women in STEM from the If/Then Collection , students will select one woman to continue studying. Students will then choose to write a report, record a news report, or make a book.
There is a huge shortage of women in STEM fields. By providing these books, I will be able to build a strong foundation and interest in STEM education. Show them that they can truly be anything they want to be when they grow up. The books that I have chosen are books that my students will absolutely love. I want my students to see that they are scientists and readers. Thank you for your support!
