Alternative seating encourages independence and ownership to one's learning which I found to be surprisingly successful this year as I experimented with flexible seating options. While using carpet swatches from the carpet store and a few extra office chairs as well as bean bags, I quickly noticed that the freedom to choose where and what my students sat on truly made a difference! Offering additional seating options encouraged more engagement, a higher percentage of work completed and less fidgeting, which, in turn meant less disruptions. The seats that I have selected will be such a beneficial addition to our learning environment. They will accommodate paper materials as well as laptops due to their easy-to-care-for material and durable design. The students can use them on the floor, on classroom chairs and benches as well as easily carry them from room to room. I am looking so forward to offering a variety of seating options for my students as I witnessed the positive behaviors and completed assignments that flexible seating provided.
