Blood on the River is a great way to integrate reading and writing with US history! As the students read through the book, they are drawn into the experiences of a child coming to Jamestown in 1607. It is a great way to bridge our ELA and Social Studies curriculums! Our students will dive deep into this novel and truly understand the adventures in the new world. It presents important events of the time period along with relevant social lessons that make the story and characters extremely relatable. Students are asked to think critically about plot, character, setting, motivation, conflict, cause and effect, and theme.
