Due to COVID-19, I plan on shifting my 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade classroom music from recorders to pianos. They are easier to wipe with cleansing wipes between student use. I can also social distance the students within the room by spacing out the keyboards.
Learning the piano is useful in teaching the Music Standards within the parameters of:
National Music Education Standards
Singing, alone and with others, a varied repertoire of music (learning the piano is useful in matching vocal pitch notes to the instrument).
Performing on instruments, alone and with others, a varied repertoire of music.
Improvising melodies, variations, and accompaniments.
Composing and arranging music within specified guidelines.
Reading and notating music.
Listening to, analyzing, and describing music.
