Developmental play centers are a major part of our PreK day. We know that by giving PreK students time for developmentally appropriate open-ended play, we are providing them the opportunity to be successful in school. We are finding that students of all skill levels, who may have different learning obstacles, can work together in an open-ended play situation and be completely at ease. We have a sensory bin, a pretend center, a block center, math center, literacy center, manipulatives, and a newly added light table as some of our developmental play centers.
Our play manipulatives for our light table need to grow so that we have many ways to reach/teach each student. The manipulatives that we are asking for would add to these areas of play. They would serve as tools for play, but they would also allow children to use math, reading, STEAM, social skills, fine motor skills, and foster imagination in each center. We are using our light table as a way to give children hands-on activities to reinforce what is being introduced in class through the use of different open ended play experiences.
