I teach in a self-contained/low incidence classroom. My students have severe disabilities and need a lot of one-to-one instruction. Most of the teaching I do is hands-on which is impossible to do via the internet. They are non-verbal and communicate mostly through a picture exchange communication system (PECS).
I want to create a PECS for each student to use at home so that I can communicate with them on our school internet platform. They can also use PECS to communicate with their caregivers at home. It would benefit them greatly to practice using PECS while they are social distancing. Most of my students are high-risk and have compromised immune systems. I don't know when we will be together again. I want to converse with them.
