Students' experiences in small towns are limited to what they see on the internet or what they experience with their family. The internet is not always true and many of our family experiences are limited to local information.
These magazines provide the opportunity for students to experience positive, correct knowledge outside the local environment. These experiences often provoke questions and discussions that would otherwise not happen in the classroom. The biggest challenge in the high school classroom is to gain student interest in things they do not already know or understand. Reading magazines promotes interest and questions.
These discussions provide the opportunity to talk about job opportunities that these students may not have considered or even knew existed.
