My students will use these materials in therapeutic settings to increase their ability to succeed in the classroom. We have students from diverse backgrounds including therapeutic group homes, motels, and our domestic violence shelter. These students often need more social-emotional supports and resources in order to be successful.
Emotional and behavioral issues must be addressed to ensure classroom success. During individual and group sessions, students will learn coping mechanisms to improve their social and behavioral skills. Materials, such as the sand tray, will help students express their emotional trauma.
The resources are evidence-based methods that provide students an outlet to express their experiences and feelings. Children often communicate their emotions and learn through play. The games, books, fidgets, play families and puppets, become an important vehicle for them to express their feelings and learn appropriate social, emotional and behavioral skills so they can be successful in the classroom and with their peer groups. When children know and understand their feelings they are empowered to take control of their behavior and become successful learners.
