Research has shown time and time again the importance of reading to children in order to build strong language skills. Research also shows that children who come from low income households are often read to less frequently at home and are exposed to fewer books. Many of the students I teach have low language skills in part due to this lack of exposure.
With these books my students will be exposed to a wide variety of engaging, language rich texts that will help promote robust language development. Providing literacy based speech therapy to my students will help bridge the gap in their language skills and lead to greater success in their general education classroom.
