Flexible seating gives students options and allows them to make the choices that work best for their learning. With additional seating options, students will be able to choose a spot in the classroom that works best for them, especially during our reader's and writer's workshops. As of now, my students can choose to work at different tables, sit on the floor with a clip board, or sit in a scoop rocker. Making sure students are comfortable is a key component in motivating them. Students are noticeably more engaged when they are given a choice in their seating.
When students make good choices about where they sit, they are focused, less disruptive of their peers, and can get more quality work completed. The products that I have selected will benefit my students by providing them with additional seating options to make more effective learning choices. The convertible bench will allow students to sit together and collaborate during small group work, but will convert back to where students can face forward if needed. The wobble seats can be used on the floor or on a chair. These will be most beneficial for some students that just need to get the wiggles out. The stadium seats will allow for additional comfortable floor seating options. They are safe, lightweight, and can be easily used in various areas of our classroom. Lastly, the foam floor mat will also give students a more comfortable seating option rather than sitting on bare floor.
I currently have limited flexible seating options. I have seen how choice can positively affect my students' work and engagement. My hope is that the additional options will give more students the benefits of flexible seating.
