My students are currently primarily using their cellphones to take photos in the classroom. Due to their internet connection speeds and the devices we have, sometimes it can take 20 minutes to upload all their photos. This is often frustrating and discouraging because the students aren't able to work alongside their peers or turn in assignments on time.
With new cameras, they will be able to learn the technicalities of a DSLR camera, take high-quality photos, and streamline the process of uploading photos. Most students don't have a DSLR camera to use at home. With new cameras, more students can check them out for their creative endeavors.
