The book collections that schools keep often focus on a white hero, a male hero, who often go through an adventure with a happy ending and no consequences in life.
I want my students to engage in books that reflect who they are when they look into a mirror. I want my students to read about topics that impact their lives and will be determine factors in who they are as they become adults and future leaders in this world. I want my students to read topics that will spark discussions in a save and respectful environment. And I want my students to know that they can read and talk about any topic that is important to them in real life.
