To make real-world connections to learning, this year I have begun creating STEAM activities to engage my students in connecting concepts across the curriculum. We hope to participate in NASA鈥檚 mission to Mars at the Learning Center.
This not only will connect the social studies concept of colonization in the past to what may very well be a part of their futures but also exposes them to career choices. I would like to take my fifth graders to places they have not been to, so they can see the endless possibilities of careers they have to choose from instead of just reading about it. So in addition to going to the Challenger Learning Center, we would like to also visit places like the zoo and participate in Zoo School which explores career choices as well. This field trip has already been partially funded, but we still need help to make our trip a reality.
