Many students' families are only able to visit a laundromat during their day off, typically on Saturdays or Sundays, when laundromats are busiest. If families are unable to wash all of their clothes at that time, or if students' uniforms become dirty during the week, they must wait for their families' next day off to wash their clothes.
Although we never turn away a student who arrives to school without their uniform, students will sometimes miss school if they feel uncomfortable with the state of their clothing.
Having access to laundry at school will help improve attendance for students who have limited access to laundry at home. In addition, our younger students in the lower elementary grades and some of our students with special needs are potty-training and sometimes have accidents in school. Access to a washer will reduce the burden on their families, who send multiple sets of clean clothes to school per week. Overall, having access to a reliable high-efficiency washer will help our students feel more confident and their families feel less burdened so that they can focus more on learning and less on barriers like access to laundry.
