Change is hard, but all students can be intrigued with something novel. My class usually has tables and chairs for students to sit with others, but this year will be different with all the restrictions due to the coronavirus. I want my classroom to be an inviting safe haven to step away from any emotional stress. When my children walk in, they will see a gentle glow of alternative lighting and a peaceful backdrop of nature. Children will have their own choice of wipe clean floor cushions, stadium chairs, sensory wiggle seats, and their own designated space. Long gone will be the rows of desks and the gathering of groups of students at tables. If I were a child, this would be a place I would love to come every day during this pandemic and beyond. My goal is provide a calming learning retreat-like environment which motivates my students to come to school to learn while maintaining safe social distancing.
