Growing up, math was always worksheets or flashcards. Whether it was addition, division, or even fractions, there was never another way to learn math in my classroom. Although it worked out for me, I know that not every child learns that way. That realization became especially true when I started teaching some of my amazing students this year. With all of their energy and excitement about school and learning, often times the monotony of worksheets and class lectures takes away from their sincere desire to grow intellectually. That is why I want to provide them with these math tools and games, to help them rekindle their flame of curiosity and help them enjoy math!
Math is about exploration, curiosity, and understanding the way the world works in different ways! It isn't always about the structure or methods. Math came about as a way to understand the world we live in. I simply wish to bring that curiosity and exploration back into my students' math experience.
These math activities will be extra practice for them during their math work time as a substitute to the typical flashcards they practice. They will allow the students a more personalized experience when it comes to their education, and provide them opportunities to work together or compete against each other in a test of wit, knowledge, and speed in their variety of work choices.
