Our health clinic is in need of a massive makeover. We are in a building that is over 30 years old and had been used as a staff training facility for the past couple of years before the EF-3 tornado. This facility came with space but no supplies to promote the wellness of our students. The majority of our health teaching supplies we had from our campus were lost or damaged in the storm.
It is our goal to provide the students with monthly teaching on our bulletin board along with various teaching topics posted around the clinic, as the health class curriculum has been reduced this year. We want to continue to teach our students how to manage their own health conditions. It is our mission to promote awareness and teach varying topics of health & wellness monthly to our students and cover topics such as mental health, diabetes, vision, hearing, and oral health. We plan to present health topics (illness prevention and hypertension for example) with posters to peak their interest. Then, we will do hands on teaching- proper hand hygiene, checking a pulse, or monitoring blood pressure to help the students become proficient with self-care.
