As an educator, we learn that the best learning is hands-on learning. Children gain critical thinking skills working together, by creating, and while involved in play. Since 2020, our students have been robbed of this authentic learning that is so important in developing minds.
The majority of the students at my school are below the poverty level. Most have food insecurity, and many live in inadequate homes. Distance learning has intensified this situation for many students.
The goal of 鈥淟iving My Life In 3D鈥 is to provide segues for students to have authentic opportunities to be innovative, to create, and chances to work together. My dream is that they regain some of the confidence lost during the past two years. This project will also help meet the goals of the new computer science objectives for the State of Oklahoma.
The concept of my project is to provide my students software and 3d printers for authentic learning experiences. The first printer will print smaller items, while the second one will print larger items and groups of smaller items. Once students master the machines, they will teach lessons to other classes on the use and value of 3D printing. This allows me to assess student learning through real life innovations and provides opportunities for other students to utilize the equipment.
Providing 3d printers for my students will allow innovation and invention that has been lacking for the past two years due to the pandemic. This is an opportunity that my students would most likely never get to experience in their daily lives. I appreciate the opportunity to apply.
