Many students do not have the opportunity to understand what was involved in settling Utah. The hands-on experience of what early trades were about is taught at school. We learn about trappers, miners, tanners, and other early settler trades.
A glimpse into the past through, guest speakers, and hands-on activities will improve our students understanding. When children can have a first hand experience of a topic they will gain a longer lasting knowledge and deeper understanding.
Providing students with the opportunity to see, touch, feel, and create will increase their knowledge and leave a lasting impression of what was required to build Utah to what it is today.
