In my classroom, I feel that it is important that a solid literacy foundation is developed. Therefore, my students practice their reading skills daily in my kindergarten classroom. The students participate in guided reading groups which entails a read with the teacher station, a word work station, and a read to self station. My students rotate through all three stations each day. Our read to self station involves the students self-selecting a number of texts to read, as well as the teacher selecting some texts for them to read on their instructional reading level. With the funding of this project, our students would have their very own reading bags to organize their books for their individual reading time.
When students are able to practice their reading skills independently, it helps build their confidence and interests in the subject of reading.
Being successful with literacy skills is vitally important for functioning in today's society. These foundational literacy skills begin in kindergarten and will be built upon the rest of their lives. The product I have selected will assist me in providing organized independent reading opportunities for my students. These bags are kid-friendly, re-usable, sturdy, and will be easily accessible to the students for daily use.
I am excited to see the growth that my students will make with their reading skills. Practicing their reading independently with the organizational help of these reading bags will help my students grow into proficient readers.
