Imagine being 11 years old. All you want to be doing is running around, playing, or talking with your friends. You also have a condition that makes sitting and focusing for long periods of time next to impossible. Now imagine that you have to sit in a hard plastic chair at a traditional desk all day long. For many of my students, this is their reality. Between the ADD, ADHD, and Autism that many of my students have, a traditional classroom setting is painful, both physically and mentally. I would like to provide my students with the ability to sit in chairs that allow them to wiggle and move. They would not only be more comfortable, but they would be allowed to move while still at their desks, helping them focus their attention better.
In a classroom where more than half of our day is collaborating, these 3 different forms of wiggle chairs will allow students to move around, be comfortable, form small groups with "like chairs", all the while having their individual needs met and respected. These chairs will all fit at their traditional desks, but will also allow us to move around the classroom and not be bound by tradition.
