The lessons students will learn from the items I requested will reinforce the idea that hard work pays off and working together transcends differences. At our school we have many different cultures represented so it鈥檚 important to take the time to embed opportunities for students to connect and discover in fun and organic ways how they can accomplish goals. Through activities that challenge students to work together, they learn to consider various points of view and encourage one another to keep trying and not give up. Those who keep going can ultimately win awesome prizes!
In addition to games, students are also "paid" with Viking Valhalla Dollars for meeting expectations that demonstrate and reinforce pride, respect, and responsibility in themselves and others, as well as for our school community. Those dollars are used to purchase items from our school store that support learning and allow students to 鈥減ay鈥 to participate in school-wide raffles. The items found in the school store and those used in raffles are important because they provide a way for students to earn things they otherwise may not be able to afford. Since we encourage students to focus on studying during these formative years we feel it is important to find other ways to provide items like free caps and gowns for graduation and items they want for themselves or as gifts for family members.
