Hello all, I am a Moderate/Severe Teacher at a Middle School in Oakland, California. I have 4 visually impaired students and 4 Deaf Hard of Hearing students and 2 students who are multiple disabilities. I have chosen these items to help provide academical and emotional support for their particular needs. My classroom is an old science classroom therefore it lacks the calming and appropriate acoustics that will support their individual developmental needs.
The materials that I have chosen will help increase the sensory levels, academic, social and emotional development as well as reduce the variety of behaviors that are impacting my students. The tent is needed to support the safe place in which students may need when they are overwhelmed; will also reduce some levels of the anxiety. The light covers will reduce the brightness in the classroom and provide a softer environment so students can focus. The carpets will be added to the reading area so that it creates a comfortable and inviting reading nook area. The books will allow my students to explore and engage in life, and earth sciences which will coincide with the core requirements from the State of California.
Overall my students will benefit from these key components that will play a significant part of their academic, emotional and social developments. Any contributions would be greatly appreciated and utilized to the fullest capacity,
