Games are used in small groups to encourage students to learn to play fair and accept that games are played for fun and not to win. They help students to work together cooperatively. The students I work with are dealing with personal feelings and learning how to express their emotions in a positive manner. Sensory items and Play-Doh are used in calm down areas and help students to comply with their calm down plans.
Social-emotional development is necessary for students to meet with success in the school environment and in their everyday life. We promote praising the positive and teaching social skills through the Nurtured Heart Approach and the Second Step curriculum on our campus.
