Our current literature selection is dated and limited. This book by a favorite author, Alan Gratz, connects students to history in a modern way. Students travel between three points of view of refugees from different time periods. They will be inspired by the qualities of survivors who overcome unbelievably difficult circumstances creating connections to their individual lives. This novel is up-to-date with current issues that have relevancy to today as well as "the yesterdays" of world history. Students will identify the manner in which the author creates suspense and develops his characters, culminating in a literary twist that will absolutely astonish the students!
