Being a middle school teacher, I am very much aware how difficult this time of life is for all my students as they learn their place in the world. Also our school is a Title I site where the majority of students receive free/reduced lunch. For many of them, school is not their priority, survival is.
Therefore just teaching science concepts is not enough for me.
I strive to engage my students to show them the relevance of our science lessons in their everyday lives and give them the confidence to know that everyone of them is capable of success in science.
Putting updated scientific equipment in the hands of students challenges them to learn by doing. It allows them to engage with and explore scientific concepts and learn skills in a safe environment with the bonus of opening up the doorway to the world of STEM careers as they prepare to enter high school and beyond.
