Help me create a windows and mirrors classroom library for my students! We need high quality books that will provide a window into the lives, perspectives, and lived experiences of those outside their community as well as mirrors that will reflect their lives and their truths. These students are in the unique position of participating in a Spanish immersion program, so it is important to give them plenty of options in Spanish as well.
Filling our classroom library with quality children's literature is the best way to make lifelong readers. By giving students daily access to new, engaging books and classics that are beloved, I am increasing the chances that they will find a book that speaks to them. It is my intent to have a room with 28 students who fall in love with reading this year.
When students have choice time many of them choose to read, and we always have time to read independently throughout the day. With close to 30 of us, we go through books quickly and I want to make sure that I have options on the shelves that they want to pick up.
