Teachers, like all students, need a learning environment that is relevant to and reflective of their social and cultural experiences.聽 In order to create the optimal learning experience for students, teachers need to continue to build capacity in their teaching through continuous training.聽聽
Education is a never-ending process, it doesn鈥檛 stop after earning a degree and starting a career.
Teachers need professional development to ensure the best learning outcomes for their students and to be more effective in all aspects of their work.
I dream of creating a space where teachers can continue to learn new strategies and concepts that will help them ensure the success of their students.
There are over 80 teachers at our school which does not allow for intimate, meaningful learning and discussion. By creating this space our teachers will be able to have a space for deeper discussions and learning. The round, dry erase tables will allow teachers to collaborate face to face while giving them a visible record of their work as they address the needs of students.
Having this space for discussion and learning will also allow me to facilitate a book study of the book, "Fostering Resilient Learners." Our school is a Title One school, more than half are from low income households. Many of these students have experienced trauma in their lives and often allow the trauma to limit their futures. By facilitating this book study I hope teachers will learn that trauma does not define a student and gain new strategies to teach students how to be resilient, not allowing trauma to define who they are and help the student realize their dream.
