One of our goals as Occupational therapists working in a special education public school is to make the perfect sensory corner to address all our student's sensory needs.
Through this sensory corner project, our students will be able to use their bodies to engage in these sensory activities which will enable them to further participate and learn in school. Many of our students have goals to be able to engage in school-related tasks for a specific amount of time and through the use of these sensory items, their ability to organize the sensory input coming into their bodies and engage and focus in school will greatly improve.
When provided with vestibular, proprioceptive, tactile, auditory and visual sensory input through the use of a sensory swing, kinetic sand, compression vest and all the wonderful things included in our project, they demonstrate increased improvement in therapy and in their classroom.
