We want to bring literacy to life and you can help! Students with communication difficulties can struggle to express themselves and "absorb" classroom academics & literacy. Our students require individualized teaching methods and materials in addition to a language-rich environment. Having additional 2D pictures and 3D objects the students can touch and feel helps students make connections among language concepts & vocabulary, symbols/pictures, and objects.
You can help our students access children's books!
We are building adapted "literacy kits" for a variety of children's books and literacy activities consisting of 3D items, related photos, and symbols from their individual communication systems. Experiencing language in a variety of ways (hands-on, visual, spoken, text) helps students learn and practice these concepts. This bridges the gap for our students and helps them experience learning in a real-world way they connect with!
