Big books are the perfect way for lower elementary teachers to expose all students to rich literacy opportunities. Our K-2 students will benefit from the large print and pictures, which will increase print knowledge, emergent reading skills, comprehension, and oral language. Using big books during shared reading time, students will get to interact with the text during instruction and read aloud time. By placing big books at a classroom center, students will get the opportunity to explore the text in a hands-on way鈥攐ften trying their emergent reading skills, retelling then story, or hunting for sight words. Big books are the perfect way to immerse even the most struggling students into the world of literacy!
